Voluntary organisations are justifiably proud of their record on serving marginalised people in their communities. Many organisations have an 'open door' policy and a commitment to being impartial. However, increasingly these organisations are required to demonstrate their policies and good practice in relation to equal opportunities. An understanding of the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice with evidence that these principles are being applied to all areas of the organisation's work is now a frequent condition for funding.
Staff development and training in equal opportunities.
Good practice in equal opportunities has now moved on to encourage us to value equality and diversity and to ensure that equality is mainstreamed through all the planning and activities of the organisation.
