Practice supervision and support

By engaging with an experienced worker who is prepared to help you look  critically at what you do you can gain a better understanding, in professional  terms, of your work  situation. In order to keep your practice going and growing and to help you survive the  pressures of managing your work, it is essential you take time out to review  what you do.

Consultation
Consultation is a work-based enabling activity which focuses on your  professional relationships with clients, colleagues and management. Your  consultant need not be  experienced in your particular field but should be able  to help you view your practice with a new perspective.

Supportive environment
A practice consultant should be able to provide you with a safe, stimulating  and supportive environment in which you can:
- Consider an alternative, rational and objective view point to your  practice, analyse the process and dynamics of your work, team and organisation.
- Consider and align with your purpose and vision.
- Learn to diagnose inappropriate reactions and behaviours, in yourself,  colleagues and others.
- Explore your inner conflicts.
- Experiment with new behaviour and attitudes.
- Plan and execute strategies.
- Find refreshment and strength.

In addition, engaging regularly with a practice consultant will help you  to-raise awareness of personal factors affecting your work and performance raise levels of understanding of your role as a helper help you formulate professional judgements enable you to take action on the basis of these professional  judgements.
